About Us

Sandpiper Goldens originated in Winter Park, Florida.  I purchased my first dog: an Irish Setter in 1973.  I purchased my first golden in 1975.  In those days the dogs and I spent alot of time at the beach.  Their favorite pastime was to chase the little Sandpiper birds along the waters edge.  That was the beginning to Sandpiper Retrievers.

I purchased my first show quality golden Rock Hill's Ticker Tape Parade WC in 1978.  I ruined Teak for the show ring by over training her but she did produce the first specialty winning and group placing Sandpiper champions.

I attended my first GRCA national specialty in 1978.  The goldens were magnificent.  I met Jake, Charlie and Teddy to name a few.  I keyed into Leslie Dove's Goldwing dogs and was fortunate to purchase my next show golden from Leslie.  Rhythm or BIS AM CAN BAH CH Goldwing Le Cordon Bleu CD, WCX SDHF.  Rhythm was such quality that even I couldn't mess him up.

I met my husband Bill in 1984.  Bill was from North Carolina and handled show dogs professionally.  We were married in 1986.  We handled professionally together and made a great team.  We campaigned many breeds including goldens.  These years were a tremendous learning experience for me.  We retired from handling professionally in 1998.  That gave me a chance to get back to concentrating on my own dogs.

Sandpiper has had many champions over the years with both Golden and Flat Coated retrievers.  Sandpiper has had Hall of Fame, Best in Show, Group placers and winners, specialty winners, outstanding producers, and many field and obedience titles. Most important Sandpiper has had wonderful pets and companions and many great friends through our Goldens and Flatcoats.

Bill and I are now located in Pinehurst, North Carolina living on a beautiful golf course.  We only keep a few dogs and co-own most of our show puppies with other golden lovers.

We breed a litter or two per year.  Health, temperament and adherence standard to the triple purpose of our breed standard are of the utmost importance to our breeding program.
